Swiss luxury watchmaker Zenith presents the new Defy Extreme collection, housing the brand’s extreme 1/100th of a second El Primero chronograph. This new model represents a supercharged DEFY, with its outlines and details accentuated and a larger 45 mm case. The new Defy Extreme is also the proud founding partner and Official Timekeeper of Extreme E, a new off-road electric racing championship.
The DEFY Extreme is characterized by a larger 45mm case, sharper lines, more pronounced edges, and an overall silhouette that oozes resilience. The watch is water-resistant to 200 meters, thanks to its screw-down crown and protected pushers, and yet, it features a sapphire crystal case back highlighting the incredible mechanics within. The striking twelve-sided ring seen under the bezel, is further found on this side of the watch, continuing one of the watch’s most impactful elements.
The dial is made to enhance legibility while allowing a clear view of the groundbreaking 1/100th of a second chronograph calibre, with two escapements beating at 36’000 VpH for the timekeeping part and 360’000 VpH for the chronograph.
Consisting of a transparent sapphire crystal, the dial features applied oversized and slightly overlapping chronograph counters. The hands as well as the applied hour markers are also extra-large and coated in Super-LumiNova. The movements are colored galvanically to match and complement the exterior.
The timepiece is available in a matte titanium and a matte titanium/rose gold combo, and each comes with three different straps featuring a quick strap-change mechanism: a mircroblasted or polished and satin-brushed titanium bracelet, a rubber strap with a folding buckle matching the case and, a first for Zenith and the DEFY line, a Velcro® strap that can be easily adjusted on the go.
The titanium models retail for $18,000 and the the titanium/gold combination is $22,000 – all are available for pre-order at Zenith’s online boutique or authorized retailers worldwide (available in May 2021).
