Just in time for the much-anticipated Dubai Watch Week, ZENITH CEO Julien Tornare and Time+Tide Founder, Andrew McUtchen, reveal the second chapter of their successful collaboration. Following the success of the DEFY Classic Skeleton Night Surfer limited edition in 2021, the duo introduces the DEFY Skyline Skeleton Night Surfer El Primero, a limited edition timepiece that combines breathtaking design with cutting-edge performance.
The DEFY Skyline Skeleton Night Surfer El Primero builds on the foundation laid by its predecessor. Boasting bolder, bluer, and more geometric lines, this timepiece takes the DEFY Classic Skeleton to new heights. The latest generation of the high-frequency automatic El Primero calibre ensures precision and reliability, marking it as a worthy sequel and evolution of the original Night Surfer.
A first for the DEFY Skyline Skeleton model, the entire angular 41mm case, including its dodecagonal bezel and integrated bracelet, is meticulously crafted in microblasted titanium. This material choice not only lends the watch a homogenous, subdued grey tone but also minimizes light reflection. The screw-down crown enhances water resistance to 10 ATM (100 meters), making the DEFY Skyline Skeleton Night Surfer El Primero ideal for water sports enthusiasts. The interchangeable strap system, complete with a second textured blue rubber strap, ensures versatility without the need for tools.
The gradient night sky dial concept, a hallmark of the Night Surfer series, returns with a more dramatic execution in the DEFY Skyline Skeleton. The open dial showcases a large central four-pointed star element seamlessly integrated into the movement’s blue bridges and main plate. The metallic blue color darkens from the bottom to the top, creating a mesmerizing effect reminiscent of the fading light on the horizon after sunset.
In a nod to the original Night Surfer, the entire four-pointed star on the dial features luminescent lines that glow in the dark. Positioned at 6 o’clock, a unique feature among skeleton watches is the running 1/10th of a second indicator, adding both functionality and visual intrigue. These luminous details not only contribute to the watch’s aesthetics but also enhance visibility in low-light conditions.
The DEFY Skyline Skeleton Night Surfer El Primero is a masterful collaboration that retains the essence of the original while incorporating innovative improvements. Priced at $12,800 USD, it is a collector’s dream and a symbol of timeless elegance in the world of luxury watches.
